I really enjoy some films Von Trier has made… but this just feels like "shock value" for the sake of shock value. We'll see if the story for this movie is actually any good when it comes out. For now I'm extremely skeptical about this flick.

I agree that Von Tier is clearly trying to be edgy with Gainsbourg in an interracial three way with two black men. However, how would people respond if Gainsbourg was in a three way with two white guys? Would people really be that upset? I don't see the big deal here the movie is about sex and frankly Von Tier has done something mainstream Hollywood tends to be very paranoid about interracial sex between black men and white women it still is such a taboo. I notice European films don't have all that racial baggage that American films have about this issue.

This seems like a good film to download illegally. I'm not sure why there are so many harsh comments about Charlotte Gainsbourg since she is just an actress. This film is really the brainchild of Lars von Trier. The difference between this film and Shame is that it appears she has to be brutally punished for her sexual exploits (suggested by the storyline and the other film still released). Europeans carry just as much baggage as we Americans do with regards to race. While ideas about race vary from country to country the idea of the black brute still persists throughout Europe. I think this still is meant to stir up emotions and play up old tropes. I would hesitate to pay to see this film but would download it before I categorically dismiss it.
