The casting of Theron is wrong for the same reason the casting of Pitt was wrong: the character is an assassin who is so physically nondescript that no one knows what he/she looks like. Good luck having either of those stunners enter a room unnoticed. Joaquin Phoenix – yes. But not those two.

Franchises are what open movies nowadays, not any particular actor or actress. People you think are big in a franchise font open big when they do movies outside of that. See Kristen Stewart and Jen Lawrence as examples. Don\’t knock Charlize, she\’s more popular than ever now, and in the past was not interested in being a box office draw. Most of her movies were small, independent ones, and she made very few efforts to form big , commercialized films. Now that she\’s been consistent the last few years, her star has clearly been rising.

For comment above. If you thought bigger movie stars will guarantee box office\’s success, then you couldn\’t be more wrong. Nowadays it\’s more about the quality of the movies and how well they promote them. Charlize Theron is a much better actress than Angelina Jolie. She is getting more star power especially after Mad Max: Fury Road and her relationship with Sean Penn. She will have 5 movies next year (one as producer), they will help her to be more famous and i don\’t think people will have any problem with her being as lead in movies.

I\’m trying to figure out exactly who Sony thinks the audience for this is going to be? Changing the gender to go from Tom Cruise to Angelina Jolie? Makes sense. She can open a movie. Changing the gender to go from Brad Pitt to Charlize Theron? Not so much. She can\’t open an unlocked door. Hope Sony has enough sense NOT to give her a big up-front payday and make her sign a deal with a small up-front and bigger back end. They\’ll never have to pay it out.
