Swell nailed it. And by the way, I\’d really love to see more of Furiosa, even better in a standalone film. That character is ranked already among the greatest action heroines of all time and Charlize Theron\’s performance was just astonishing. Oscar-worthy to say the least.

@Rodie: That idea sounds like something Marvel would do if they had the rights to Mad Max. And I\’ve never totally bought the comparison with this film and Batman Begins. Yes, that was well reviewed and a modest success, but people don\’t seem to mention that The Dark Knight also had the most iconic comic book villain ever returning to the screen after almost 20 years of not being in a Batman film. Ledger\’s unfortunate death also added a lot of mystique to it all, as well as all of the Oscar buzz that surrounded it. Mad Max has no such iconic villains, and it may get a larger following on home video but it won\’t make anywhere near the kind of money that TDK did. If WB goes through with another sequel for Mad Max, they will probably cut the budget down just like they are doing for Pacific Rim 2.

I\’m not surprised Theron isn\’t signed on, I\’m expecting her to get a standalone spinoff after Wasteland and before the third film. Even though Hardy said he\’s contracted for three more, I\’m only seeing them doing two with the Furiosa film inbetween. A lot of trilogies have a spin off inbetween the second and third films, and Charlize for me deserves it. Her character was phenomenal.

If Batman Begins (worldwide gross $374 mil) taught WB anything, it should have been that a universally well received reboot pays dividends more so with a sequel (Dark Knight $1 billion) at the BO than the reboot itself. I realize it\’s not an apples to apples comparison, but after Fury Road hits home media, its already rabid fan base will grow and the hype for Wasteland amplify with it. I mean, it\’s got to be a safer dice roll than the Point Break, Tarzan, Jungle Book, King Arthur and friggin Geostorm franchises they are trying to launch.

I think you look at this like a trilogy and take Max in a different direction for the second film but have Theron cameo at the end of Wasteland as a teaser and feature her prominently in the third movie.
