Well, this is sad to read. If you look at mainstream media these days, I think it has made a clear turn towards more escapism and fantasy, the rise of superhero movies being just the tip of the iceberg. This makes the sort of stuff Kaufman makes much harder to swallow for the general public than in the 2000s.

Making the jump to TV is seems like the right choice. Even if I don't really agree that all the quality stuff is there these days, that's certainly part of the public perception so it's more likely that he'll get something funded there.

I know his work is usually very much his own, but personally I'd be very curious to see him tackle a super commercial project, like 007 or Spider Man.

Its really sad to see someone's originality and creativity being ignored by the film fraternity. The blame also goes to the audience who usually has some sort of delayed gratification towards Kaufman's work. I hope it changes.
One observation i had was the trailer of anomalisa never did that impact on us to make some struggle and watch the film. Yes, Everyone knew the reviews were great and so is the film, but the promotion lacked something. I watched all of his movies, yet i find the trailer of Anomalisa very slow. Even if the film was different from other animated features, one should market it like its the best thing ever to happen and create that impact onto normal audiences mind to watch it out of excitement, not sympathy.

If you're reading this Charlie, i want you to know that i am just an admirer of your works( from Kerala, India )and I'll be looking forward to see your next film along with my peers. I wish you all the luck.
