Anybody who has seen Fassbender in "Fish Tank" knows that this guy will be perfect for Mr. Rochester - ambiguous, charming, presentable.

And I for one really liked "Sin Nombre" and I'm interested to see where he goes with his sophomore effort.

There's hardly anything dark about Jane Eyre. It's a Disney story. Now Balzac's Eugenie Grandet - that's a dark story about a woman trying to survive in a corrupt world. Jane Eye's life story is full of luck. I'm not sure what the director means by paying up the "gothic elements." The crazy woman Rochester keeps in his attic isn't all that weird once everything is revealed.
