Yea… her jumping straight to the "misogyny" conclusion and the support from the media she received for that statement, underscores the problem with feminism today.

Sexism means a very specific thing: negative prejudice, negative discrimination, agains real people.
Not writing certain kinds of stories doesn\’t qualify. No one yet having made a movie about suffragists – doesn\’t qualify. Hey, what about Mona Lisa\’s Smile, wasn\’t that about feminist progress? Yea, I\’m sure it\’s tough getting such a movie greenlit, in an environment where ideological feminist statements like hers go unchecked or actually drwon in applause. Where no one is seemingly able to stop talking about "empowering women".

Unless she can cite additional reasons why she thinks those circumstances are due to sexism, she\’s just holding an empty sack.

I watch a lot of films and I agree that things could be better for women in the industry. Actresses can get stuck with playing the wife or the mother often but its getting much better, especially on TV. I\’m also pretty sure Carey Mulligans face is featured more prominent than the 3 men behind her on the poster for her new film and she probably made just as much money as any male actor on that set. It could be harder: you could be a black, asian, gay, mexican dwarf and then you\’d reeeeeally have limited choices for roles…

I do agree: things could always be better for women in the industry but you know who has it harder in Hollywood? Any minority group. Mulligan still gets paid millions and has leading roles. Come on now its not as dramatically bad as its made out to be.

Oh definitely, there are hundreds of wonderful stories and material out there for women, and that women can be proud of.

But sadly, the industry is just not interested in producing it.

There is a lack of material for older women.And young actresses are paired with actors who are 10-15 years older.It\’s happenig because directors and producers want to work with a young actress istead of older.It\’s not difficult to understand.

I disagree. Although I hear this all the time I have two strong feature films that revolve around two female character and cannot get a female of male producer to consider it due to other projects. There are a lot of powerful stories for women.
