I wonder how this reviewer felt when the film won the Grand Prix, chosen by the likes of George Miller, Arnaud Desplechin, Mads Mikkelsen, and Donald Sutherland, among others...

And to the commenter who thinks this reviewer is so good at being a bully and making a filmmaker think about quitting doing something they love, I invite you (both of you) to try and make a film. Seriously, it's like the Olympics: people at home watching on TV think they know how to do the sport better than the athletes; making chide comments to their friends..."if they had only done this...".

But then, guess what, the TV commentator is ALWAYS SOMEONE THAT HAS DONE THE SPORT, and usually one of the best, because they actually understand what they're watching and how hard it is.

To me, this review feels like the equivalent of someone at home on their couch critiquing Simone Biles' floor routine. It is entirely unprofessional, and, ironically, makes the reviewer seem like a precocious child that lacks compassion for the parents toiling to put the food on the table!

I'm not saying you have to like the film, but please, respect the filmmakers.

is this a review of Xavier Dolan as a person? seems to be filled with what you infer about Xavier Dolans personality / life based on watching a movie he made. maybe keep the critique about the film itself instead of constantly circling back to how what you felt was a bad film must directly correlate with a bad person creating the art.

This might not be a film that crosses cultural barriers very well. Dolan himself said he thinks English-speakers don't get the film; he might have a point.
