the major difference between Force Majeure and The Loneliest Planet is that Ostlund starts his film with the husband's perceived failure, whereas The Loneliest Planet ends with it.

This doesn't seem that original. The Loneliest Planet covered some of the same territory. Eric Kohn reviewed that one on 8/11/11.

@Ray, the dilemma presented in Force Majeure does indeed resemble that of the The Loneliest Planet.

David Thomson's review on The Loneliest Planet (published on the website of The New Republic) nicely describes the dilemma at the heart of this movie.
