He’s always been so gratuitous that you can’t decide whether he’s being sarcastic, ironic, or totally earnest. It took years for everyone to wrap their heads around just how tongue-in-cheek he was being with movies like Robocop, Basic Instinct, Showgirls and Starship Troopers. And those all stand as their own meta masterpiece genre parodies.. (yes, even Showgirls sits near the top of the trashy sexploitation pile). I’m pumped for this. He’s like the kid who shows up to practice, makes a mockery of the whole sport, then handily proves he’s the best player on the team.
