Cannes Director’s Fortnight Line-Up Adds Sundance Breakout ‘Good One,’ A Michael Cera Christmas Movie & More

The 55th edition of the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, the parallel section of the main Cannes Film Festival, has announced its 2024 line-up. Running from May 15 to 23, the Fortnight, or the Quinzaine Des Cinéastes, in French, will debut 21 feature films and ten short films.

This year’s selection is the second line-up curated by delegate General Julien Rejl, who assumed his role in 2023. The opening night film is “This Life Of Mine,” by French filmmaker Sophie Fillières, known for “If You Don’t, I Will,” also an actress who had a part in the Academy Award-winning drama “Anatomy Of A Fall.” The film stars Agnès Jaoui, portraying a woman at the age of 55 facing an identity crisis.

The closing night film is the dark comedy “Plastic Guns,” directed by Jean-Christophe Meurisse which is Inspired by a true story of mistaken identity and a drama unfolds around the case of a Frenchman wrongfully arrested by police.

The line-up is also highlighted by four films from emerging or debut American filmmakers, including Tyler Taormina’sChristmas Eve In Miller’s Point,” featuring Michael Cera, Sawyer Speilberg, Elsie Fisher, Francesa Scorsese, and Gregg Turkington, Carson Lund’sEephus,” Ryan J. Sloan’sGazer,” and India Donaldson’sGood One,” which was one of the breakout indies from the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (read our review).

Also part of the 2024 line-up Patricia Mazuy’sVisiting Hours” starring Isabelle Huppert and Hafsia Herzi as women who form a bond while visiting their husbands in prison.

Established in 1969, the Directors’ Fortnight is an independent sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival. Check out the full line-up and the press announcement video below.
