Cannes juries are a random body of people each year and not a consistent governing body where "we owe you one" actually factors in. And the Cannes jury votes by committee and consensus, something the Academy does not do. Totally different process.

umm… Carol was given Best Actress. What exactly about that is a snub? Only someone who doesn\’t actually care about global cinema would think that just because a high profile American film didn\’t take the top prize that it was a snub.

Bradshaw praised Chronic\’s screenplay win as "shrewdly judged". The script is apparently a meticulous planting of clues building up to a big shock. Juries rarely if ever read the trades during the festival\’s run.

I didn\’t hear anything terribly positive about Dheepan, was almost certain Son of Saul was gonna take it. And best screenplay for Chronic! I heard it was pretty bland outside of the Tim Roth performance! Cannes is weird.
