Everything about this is a huge red flag. DC/WB seems completely confused about what they want this series to be. First, Snyder was too grim and humorless. Then they, after 2 films, they retro actively decided to lighten things up with "Justice League". But before that has even been released, they have decided to switch courses once again and return to grim and self-serious with Reeves. (Anyone thinking Reeves would willingly whip up a frothy, Marvel-style "Batman" movie hasn't been paying attention to the projects he is drawn to. You can count the laughs generated by his entire resume on two hands). While Reeves will undoubtedly seek to create a more substantial, grounded, and elegant version of the serious DC world Snyder attempted, is that really what DC wants? Is it even what audiences want? Or will DC hire him, get cold feet, and then attempt to steer the whole thing back to Marvel land from the backseat?

Bottom line: while Reeves would be a perfect choice for a serious "Batman" reboot that didn't need to shoehorn into the existing DC universe, he isn't a great choice for a project that might be intended to fit neatly into a Marvel-ization of the DC films.

There's nothing about Reeves career that makes me think he could both steer the ship for and away from the studio. They have really dug their heels into a cross-product feel, and it would require either a fresh start (not that I'm suggesting it) or a more auteur talent than Reeves to save it. Reeves will deliver what they want, not what they need.
