I'd rather have an aggregate score vs reading one or two critics reviews who's opinions come with a bias towards certain genres and directors of films. It's like a census, the more ppl polled, the more certain the results IMO.

I've always found reading the local critics review not that helpful due to the experience of having very different tastes in films 80% of the time. At least with rotten tomatoes if there's a couple of critics who just don't enjoy a film but the majority of critics found something good, I can feel MORE confident that I may actually like that movie.

Nothing is fool proof and guaranteed, but rotten tomatoes is a useful tool in helping to decide if certain movies I'm unsure about seeing are actually worth seeing.... this place called The Playlist helps quite often too...

"The Visionary Director Of ‘Rush Hour,’ ‘Tower Heist’ & ‘Hercules,’"

Seriously dude? You're gonna discredit the guy like that before we even get to read what he has to say. It's one thing to disagree with his opinion; it's another to imply he has no right to make it.

Ratner has a point and I suspect the general public don't understand the aggregate system. For example, if a bland movie receives 6/10 from every critic it will get a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. If a brilliant but potentially polarizing movie receives nine 10/10 reviews and one 5/10 review it will get a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score. The 100% seems to be interpreted as a 10/10 when the truth can be very different.
