Most of the fault for the bad acting lies on the shoulders of George Lucas. He can direct action sequences and droids just fine, but he has a bit of a deficiency when it comes to human beings. As much as I love Jesse's work, he's just not charismatic enough to do an over the top action movie. 65 episodes of playing a pimply-faced smart ass on Friday night Lights is not enough.
