Pre-production was actually underway at Paramount in 78/79, and test footage was even shot, but then Malick left to Paris without warning.

Though I wonder if it's IMAX possibilites would be limited due to A Christmas Carol and Avatar. Is there room at the end of the year for a two part Malick movie?

Also I'm pretty sure Emmanuel Lubezki is still the Director of Photography for the film (which Atkins' site confirms). I'm sure he's just doing effects work since they are entirely different beasts. Perhaps he's doing the whole of Voyage of Time however.
