Yes, J. Hob does dissent, but remember, Malick is not one of his favorites to begin with. (He\’s a notorious detractor of \”The New World,\” which I adore.) Fortunately, we live in a world that can accomodate both JH and TM\’s undeniable greatness.

I think it is a little inaccurate to say that this film elicited diverse responses, pretty much if you look at many critics Twitter feeds and the MUBI Notebook roundup, it is a pretty strongly positive response from US critics. There are a few dissenters here and there, one notable one being the great J. Hoberman, which saddens me, but not too many.
