TASM 2 isn't 10 million behind Iron Man 2, but 36 million. Also, The Other Woman didn't open to 47 million, but 24 million. So its 14.4 million weekend gross is actually quite a decent hold. Declining only 41.8 percent. You must've had the numbers mixed up with its total domestic gross at that time.

That title currently belongs to The Avengers, which opened to 207 million in 2012. Iron Man 2 stands at number 4, which opened to 128 million in 2010. Whereass The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn't even get anywhere close to both titles, standing at nr 14.

And yes, it beat the original Spider-Man 2 opening, which opened to 88 million in 2004. But let's not forget, that movie opened ten years ago without Imax and 3D surcharges. And adjusted for inflation, that movie still opened to 112 million today.

I really enjoyed this second film from Marc Webb, but it does seem that franchise fatigue is setting in throughout North America though

It's gonna pass Royal Tenenbaums this week to become Wes Anderson's most profitable movie to date domestically, and it has already made 89 million internationally compared to The Darjeeling Limited's 22 million international haul which is his second best. The man can retire now.
