First off, The Equalizer might be one of the worst films of the year IMO, and that even includes Transformers. Second, there is a simple reason Denzel movies always make money and that is because he plays to both the black and white audiences. When black folks only have a handful of "black movies" a year including whatever Tyler Perry movie comes out, they are pretty reliable in showing up, see No Good Deed earlier this month. So if you have your typical white audience in attendance plus the black...of course that equals success.

"The Antoine Fuqua-directed, Denzel Washington-starring actioner definitely seemed like it would be a crowd-pleaser, delivering what it promised, action and violence to its intended male and young audience and it was."

Might want to take a look again since the audience was more gender-neutral (48% were women) and faaaar more skewed toward the older crowd (only 35% were under 30).
