Kore-eda is one of the best filmmakers in the world and the quiet, reserved sensibilities that made the original so emotionally impactful would never work with American audiences. If it ever does get remade, I would bet it turns into a legal drama, focusing on the fight for "putting things right" rather than an observation of the nature of family and love.
