You might as well consider "The Raid" one of the most hotly buzzed genre movies of next year. Arriving like a nuclear bomb at TIFF in the fall, the Gareth Evans-directed film wowed Midnight Madness crowds, was quickly snatched up by Sony who will remake it under their Screen Gems shingle, and release the original via Sony Pictures Classics. And while we patiently wait for this one to roll into cinemas sometime in 2012, an Indonesian trailer for the movie has dropped, and as always, the lesson here is don't tinker with what works.
After the movie was picked up at TIFF, Sony unveiled a new trailer that was also buffed up by a new score by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda. And yeah, it was pretty flaccid. Well, this new and definitely NSFW trailer — which is pretty much indentical — has the original score by Aria Prayogi and Fajar Yuskemal, which is a far superior fit. Yeah, it's all wailing guitars and standard rock 'n roll tropes, but it cuts so much better here than Shinoda's wispy effort does. Once again, memo to producers, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Anyway, check out the new international trailer and then compare it to the Shinoda scored version. They really don't compare. One gets your pulse racing, the other makes you question who the fuck even listens to Linkin Park anymore. [Twitch]
