Are spoofs required to list their influences in the trailer? If so, that’s a new one on me. I don’t think the Spaceballs trailer said “Now, this is a spoof of Star Wars” at the start (it’s on YouTube, and it doesn’t), and I suspect the I’m Gonna Get You Sucka trailer didn’t list its predecessors either (also on YouTube, also doesn’t.)

The idea is that you’re just supposed to get it, and given that there are 337,000 Google hits for “Dolemite” I’d say people will make the connection. Also, isn’t that pimp scene (and the movie’s title) straight outa “Willie Dynamite”? And the Pam Grier look, some other movie? I find myself wondering how many influences you think they should have catalogued in the trailer. It’s an odd criticism, if you ask me.
