Got a Tip?

Billie Eilish & Ludwig Göransson Win Grammys For ‘Barbie’ & ‘Oppenheimer’

The Television Academy handed out 94 Grammy Awards this year and a majority of those were announced during a 3-hour ceremony before the main CBS telecast. Despite many of the winners waiting to show up to Staples, er, Crypto.com Arena for the main ceremony, three Oscar nominees, Billie Eilish, Finneas, and Ludwig Göransson took home big Grammy wins in the pre-ceremony across the street at the Peacock Theater. Oh, and The Beatles won a Grammy in 2024 for Best Music Video while Kylie Minogue won her second Grammy for “Padam Padam” in the Pop Dance Recording category.

As expected, Eilish and Finneas won the Best Song for Visual Media for “What Was I Made For?” from the “Barbie” soundtrack. If the duo wins the Oscar for Best Original Song next month, they will be the only artists to win a Grammy before an Oscar for a composition not once, but twice. Due to a pandemic release date change, this previously occurred for the Grammy and Oscar-winning “No Time To Die.”

During the main ceremony and in an insanely competitive field, the pair took the prestigious Grammy for Song of the Year. Now, if “What Was I Made For?” wins it will be the 10th Song of the Year winner to win Best Original Song alongside “Moon River,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “The Shadow of Your Smile,” “The Way We Were,” “You Light Up My Life,” “Evergreen (Love Theme From ‘A Star Is Born’)” “A Whole New World,” “Streets of Philadelphia,” and “My Heart Will Go On.”

“Barbie” also took home the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media.

Göransson won his fourth Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media for “Oppenheimer.” The composer and songwriter is also up for Best Original Score for Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture frontrunner at the Oscars. In something of an upset, however, John Williams won Best Instrumental Theme for “Helena’s Theme” from “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” over Göransson’s “Can You Hear The Music” from “Oppenheimer.”

In other categories, Best New Artist went to Victoria Monet, while Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance went to “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” won Album of the Year.
