I only recently started watching De Palma films because he’s never talked in the same way as his contemporaries (Scorsese, Coppola). I’ve only seen Sisters, Blow Out, Scarface and Carlito’s Way but I’ve been impressed by everyone of them.

Sisters and Blow Out are both Hitchcockian but still manage to be a De Palma film. Scarface and Carlito’s Way are a great double bill for many reasons but Carlito’s Way is superior as I find it more mature in storytelling and writing.

Blow Out is number 1 for me, but I really love Femme Fatale, it’s so wilfully, beautifully contrived.

I would put Rasing Cain and Body Double in front of Mission:Impossible but other than that a great list on one of my favorite directors. Totally agree on Carlito’s Way’s greatness.

Not sure I’d rate CARRIE (or MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE) quite so highly, but kudos for putting the wonderful PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE up there. I think BLOW OUT is probably my personal favorite.
