The film I feel is most neglected here is the tremendous French documentary "Etre et Avoir" - just outstanding work.

Swimming Pool and Cabin Fever are fun pulpy options...

Also - Gabe Toro: Watts' nipples were nothing like dinner plates. They were sundials.

ok i'm from India and i have a mediocre taste/knowledge of cinema.i attribute my love for good cinema to ur site.

I cant believe that i've seen 10,7,5 and 1 :O although personally i didnt think 28days later was this good when i had first seen it.#1 deserves its place though

Oh shit, American Splendor was 2003. That was better than dumb zombie movie, too. Probably better than X2 as well.

Shattered Glass is one of the best journalism movies, ever, and Sarsgaard's career best performance is just more justification.

Sean McGinly's Two Days, also known as Hey, This Paul Rudd Dude Can Act, though I think only two people, counting me, have seen it. It's sort of like Adaptation with chronic depression on Xanax.

Also, the lack of Shattered Glass is an embarrassing and egregious oversight, way better than some stupid gimmicky zombie movie.

21 Grams??? Maybe my hate for Sean Penn blinded me but I didn't think much of that movie (came in a double pack with Traffic). Loved Lost in Translation, 28 Days Later, and City of God. Glad you mentioned X2 (so sad to see that franchise destroyed by Ratner with X3) and Old School.

We originally had both Gerry and Elephant in our top 10 list. Some found that excessive. We bumped Gerry very-last minute when we realized that Irreversible was actually a 2003 film going by U.S. release dates.

Of course these abstract works are subdued and nuanced. Nothing was meant negative in the way you're suggesting.

Just out of curiosity, can you elaborate on what you mean by "excessive" with regards to Gus Van Sant films. His films seem like the opposite of excessive to me. They're quiet and subdued. Anyhoo, it bothers me that good action and sci-fi movies are often overlooked by critics, so props to recognizing X2. However, I think Minority Report deserves some credit (or was that 2002?). My point stills stands however.
