It's… amusing, clever and mostly entertaining yeah… but not like transcendently funny, clever or engaging either. And yes, purposeful or not the third act unraveling, ooof.

A decent little film, but ultimately Jonze's weakest work overall and ultimately we made the correct decision to exclude it from this list.

The ending, all the "brilliant" action, deux ex machina, Donald Kaufman cliches (that they telegraph every step of the way) are tedious and in some cases really banal.

The one interesting thing is the score by Carter Burwell is very reminiscent of the Wild Things score. A lot of similar melodies and motifs.

For me it's simply how I feel and take it in. The 2nd or 3rd time I watched Adaptation, it barely held my interest. I switched it off once in fact. It was actually heartbreaking because i loved it so much the first time.

Made me never want to see a movie twice.

Also, I rewatched Chicago today, after the EIC was beating the drum for it so hard, and you know what? It holds up much better than I remember. Great performances from everyone, and the conceit of making everything look like a stage show, which bothered me before, actually kind of works, although I'm not sure Marshall will get away with pulling off the same trick again, with less good reason for it, with Nine.

In my personal top 10 of this year. And I think both 'Punch' and 'Blood' show an exponential growth of Anderson as an artist, which stuff like "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia" really only hinted at.

'Minority' kind of has some last act issues, but nowhere near as crippling as in "War of the Worlds."

As for "Adaptation": really, I get it, he *tries* to make the movie bad. Um, it worked?

Kind of puts the whole film in a different context. Can't agree with your obversation that PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE is slight – it's anything but: The way I understood it it was the most acute cinematic attempt to show unfiltered EMOTION. Nobody has done something like that before. I thought it was incredibly bold and inventive. Really, really hated 25TH HOUR, though.

I suppose it's difficult to argue whether Jonze did a good or bad job making the movie 'bad.' Personally, I thought his execution was perfect, although I suppose I'll take another look sometime.

As Circusfolk said, every frame is amazing in that quirky Andersonian way, with great music by Brion and cinematography by Elswit and Sandler is marvelous. Adaptation is fantastic. Spirited Away is one of the only great animated films of our time, IMO. I really like how you guys choose off the beaten path movies like "Time Out" (which I haven't seen, but sounds interesting).

Love to see 25th Hour on there (one of the only Spike Lee movies I've ever enjoyed). And the only reason I would consider the remake of Solaris better than the original is because of the shortened length.
