Ben Affleck is probably glad to be leaving 2016 behind. It was a bit of wild time as he became the new worldwide face of Batman in two movies that might’ve racked up hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, but still wound up on many worst-of-the-year lists: “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad.” And it was the former movie which spawned the Sad Affleck meme, when the actor’s dour visage was caught on camera as Henry Cavill answered a reporter’s question about the dismal early reviews of the Zack Snyder film. “It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill, where I don’t say anything and they can lay Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it. That’s one thing I learned,” he quipped to BBC One.
However, the actor/director did also take away some practical knowledge from Snyder’s blockbuster effort.
“I learned a ton making that movie. I had not made a movie of that scale, I didn’t know what the technology was capable of doing nowadays. The last big blockbustery movie I made was ‘Armageddon’, which was in 1997,” Affleck said. “So the technology had really changed the way those movies were being made, and it was fascinating. I learned a tremendous amount.”
