Hollywood should really watch the news more often,people are hurting right now and will be for some time.I for one go to very few movies now,and try to catch the early show as it is a little less money.If they expect families with say 4to5 people to start paying $100.00 A MOVIE THEY ARE NUTS.I don\’t have anything against new technology,but if James Cameron and directors like him want to spend 400 million dollars to make a movie,fine, but I am not going to pay for it.

Why does anyone pay more for a subpar movie experience? At best, the 3D gimmick should rear its ugly head from time to time for a cheap thrill. But the majority of current 3D movies don\’t need to be 3D and PLEASE stop converting 2D movies to 3D (Ted Turner are you behind that 3Dization curtain somewhere???) You aren\’t going to the theater for an interactive VR experience. You are sitting in a fixed seat. Obviously there\’s a ton of money being poured into 3D, big investments being made, but the majority of the schlock out there isn\’t worth seeing in 3D, especially not for higher prices.

In the UK, we\’ve been paying about £1 ($1.50 or so) for the glasses for over a year now, on top of the 3D surcharge.

You can re-use your glasses and only pay the surcharge though.

wray, reusing the glasses depends on the format. For RealD, when theaters put out the bins asking that they be recycled, the glasses are sent back to the manufacturer for recycling and new (recycled?) glasses are shipped to the theater each week.

DOLBY and IMAX 3D glasses, which theaters make guests return, are sanitized at the theater in a dishwasher and reused.

All theaters need to do is say that they are doing it to encourage people to \”go green\” and bring their own glasses for people to accept it (obviously that only works if you can avoid some of the surcharges by bringing your own glasses).

I\’ve kept all the 3D glasses I\’ve worn. I paid the extra charge to see it in 3D so as far as I\’m concerned they\’re mine to keep.

When you walk out of the theater they have those receptacles to throw your glasses into that says please recycle your glasses. Are they not reusing them? If so, what are the studios or theater owners paying for?

Just to note, in Australia, some cinemas give disposable 3D glasses whereas most of the ones i\’ve been to have 3D glasses which you return after the conclusion of the screening.
