John Byrne had Superman kill Zod in his reboot, but it wasn\’t the first or last time his character was reset. The real issue with Snyder and Goyer\’s Man of Steel is that both writers think Superman is a more complex and interesting character after being unnaturally placed into a scenario where lethal force was "necessary". If you\’re already resorting to that for Superman\’s first conflict, there\’s either some serious creative bankruptcy in the writer\’s room or Snyder kind of wasted his time including Superman\’s parents if none of the morality they instilled applies to the conflicts he\’s fighting.
