Douglas Trumbull\'s high frame rate Showscan process was incredibly, shockingly realistic. Given the challenges of adopting it in a physical film world, maybe it\'s not surprising that it wasn\'t adopted by the industry. I understand that Trumbull has continued his work and is currently on the verge of rolling out an updated concept that fits perfectly in the current digital world. Trumbull has always been an innovator and whether Cameron or someone else runs with the idea probably doesn\'t matter. Still, I will be curious to see what SFX genius Trumbull is up to.

In terms of epic blockbusters and taking genres and technical artistry to new heights the last twenty-five, thirty years, only Spielberg is ahead of Cameron. Although I found Avatar a bit of a disappointment when compared to T2, the Abyss, or Aliens, it still had brilliant moments aside from the 3D technical innovations he helped to create.

What MoonDog says is a common misconception. Soaps wind up converted to 30 fps on TV. There\'s a difference between the artificial 60 fps look and true 60p, which to my knowledge has never been used for a commercial cinema release. While it will surely look \'uncinematic\' (i.e. different to what we have been conditioned to expect since the 24 fps standard was chosen for financial reasons in the 20s), I\'m excited to see the results.

Great. Faster frame rates. Now AVATAR 2 will be the most spectacular 3D episode of \"All My Children\" EVER! (Soaps and newcasts are shot at faster frame rates, which to me, translates to un-cinematic as shit.)

Cameron\'s never been against 3D post-conversion per se, just as long as the director in question is taking his time with it to make sure it\'s done right. He himself is in the process of converting \"Titanic\" to 3D, remember.

What he\'s against is the quickie, money-grab conversions like \"Clash of the Titans\" or \"The Last Airbender\" where you take a movie that was never meant to be 3D and slap it on, creating the murky and poorly-rendered results that have been the cause of most of the cynicism regarding the format.

I\'m interested in how the increased framerates will look. It\'s also comforting to know Cameron\'s still thinking of new ways to innovate cinema.
