We caught the Animated Shorts program at IFFBoston film fest last weekend and our faith in strong, simple storytelling was renewed by these 6 brilliant animators. There wasn’t one we didn’t like; each is aesthetically unique and offer entertaining, often thought-provoking themes not frequently seen in films.

IFFBoston Review: ‘Arlen Faber’ ‘The Answer Man’: A Fresh Romantic Comedy About Love And Salvation

Remember the indie film from Sundance called “Arlen Faber” that received decent reviews and boasted a good cast in Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, Kat Dennings, Olivia Thirlby? Well, it’s been given a new paint of coat in a new title called, “The Answer Man,” and we might have been one of the first few places to report it as even IMDB, Sundance, etc., are still stuck on the title (google results for “The Answer Man,” won’t turn up anything on the film either).

First time director, Megumi Sasaki’s award wining documentary follows Herb and Dorothy Vogel, a couple who married in the ’60s and shared a passion for art. They went from being wannabe artists who hung their own art on their walls to slowly becoming two of the most important private collectors of minimalist and conceptual art.

IFFBoston Review: ‘We Live in Public’: A Disturbing Look At The Early Days Of The Internet

Ondi Timoner ( the Brian Jonestown vs. Dandy Warhols doc, “Dig!”) is no doubt a freak magnet and god bless her for that. “We Live In Public” is her latest documentary of Josh Harris, “the greatest internet pioneer you’ve never heard of …” who rose quickly to fame and fortune through his internet breakthroughs in the early days of dial-up and eventually lost his mind and his millions when the dotcom bubble burst.

Harris was the youngest of 7 children who moved to NYC in the mid 80s to make a dent in the tech world with his visions of the future of the Internet.

Watchmen Trailer Burns Superman; Appropriates Philip Glass and Muse

Nerds turned down dates and going out to make sure they saw this on time (5pm PT). Wait, that’s not true, they never had dates or anything to do.

We digress, the new Zack Snyder-helmed “Watchmen” trailer is up and the Interweb has basically peed their pants.

While visually impressive, it doesn’t feel realistic at all – a different world where slo-mo permeates all. Whatever, the kids love it already. This one appropriates Philip Glass’ famous “Koyaanisqatsi” (from the titular 1982 film, sounds like an updated version maybe) score and Muse’s Glass/Steven Reich influenced, “Take A Bow.“

Look for the shot in the trailer where a mob burns a Superman dummy.
