If you were around in the 1990s or old enough to remember anyhow, the millennial Y2K phenomenon is both a panic and hilarious joke to some. In 1999, as the new year approached, Y2K referred to the potential computer errors related to the formatting and storage of calendar data for dates in and after the year 2000. Yesterday at the first-ever Brazil D23 fan event, Marvel Studios debuted a brand-new, special-look trailer for “Thunderbolts*,” their anti-heroes super team-up movie coming in 2025. “Stranger Things” star David Harbour (“Black Widow”), who plays Red Guardian in the film, was on hand to debut the new extended trailer for excited fans at the event.

The highest-grossing R-rated movie ever globally, it raked in 1.3 billion this year worldwide, became the 18th highest-grossing film of all time, and became the sixth highest-grossing Marvel movie ever, only bested by four “Avengers” films and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Filled to the brim with cameos, of course, Chris Evans as the Human Torch, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and more, there were definitely more cameos on the table in early drafts.

At the same time, they announced a “Yellowstone ‘24” spin-off, and this was the show that Matthew McConaughey was rumored to star in with some of the “Yellowstone” cast members.

This weekend, Vertical Entertainment releases the post-apocalyptic thriller “Elevation,” which reunites Anthony Mackie with George Nolfi, director of “The Adjustment Bureau” and “The Banker.” In a thriller set in the Rocky Mountains, Mackie is joined by Morena Baccarin of the “Deadpool” franchise. In it, a single father and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.

While you might expect “The Walking Dead” or “Interview With the Vampire” to be the most-watched show on AMC+, the streamer announced last year that “Mayfair Witches,” starring Alexandra Daddario, is the most-viewed season of any series ever on AMC+. And with that, they quickly announced season two, which is right around the corner.

Last month at New York Comic Con, AMC Networks announced that the anticipated second season of “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” will premiere on January 5, 2025, on AMC and AMC+.

The lore of “Star Wars” always keeps growing, not to mention the revisionism around the Prequels, a trilogy some fans seem to have grown affection for over the years. A new “Star Wars” adventure awaits. While Marvel just announced six shows coming in 2025—so much for the “less is more” Bob Iger promise—Disney’s other big juggernaut property at Lucasfilm is seemingly slowing down. No new shows will appear on the horizon until at least 2026, and the company seems to be pivoting “Star Wars” back to the big screen with three new movies in the works.

Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has tackled every genre under the sun: the heist thriller with the “Ocean’s” franchise, sci-fi with “Solaris,” WWII films (“The Good German”), the action genre (“Haywire”),  thrillers of all sorts (“Contagion,” “Side Effects,” “Kimi”), comedies (“The Informant!”) and more. But aside from “Unsane,” which flirted with the psychological horror genre, Soderbergh has never really done traditional horror.

Get ready for a new “Paddington” adventure. The third installment, “Paddington In Peru” sees director Dougal Wilson taking over for “Paddington” and “Paddington 2” helmer Paul King. The latter isn’t entirely stepping away from the beloved franchise, crafting the film’s story with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton and staying on board as an executive producer.

“We’ve tried to keep as much of the feeling, heart and fun of the other ‘Paddington’ films, but also re-introduce fans to Paddington’s home country, Peru, which turns out to be a great place for him and the Browns to have an amazing adventure lost in the jungle,” Wilson, told People this week.

If the name Jharrel Jerome sounds vaguely familiar, it should. The 27-year-old actor made his debut in Barry Jenkins‘ drama film “Moonlight” (2016), and his career has been on an upward trajectory ever since. Following that performance, he appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries “When They See Us” (2019) and Boots Riley’s limited series “I’m a Virgo” (2023).  The rising star’s next role is “Unstoppable,” an underdog sports drama that had its world premiere at the recent Toronto International Film Festival in September (read our review).
