What a glib above it all dismissal from you. Trying to pull every hackneyed fallacy out there to sound extra smug. The tired "oscar\'s have never been about criticism, dummy" sh*t. That\'s not his point. Critics have become nothing more than celebrity worshipping awards givers. So what if that\'s the nature of the Oscars? It doesn\'t mean that indiewire and all the other slobbering awards season publications need give in. But that\'s the business model so keep on keeping on. "And while Cronenberg\'s assessment is a bit more even handed than White\'s, does anyone go to Rotten Tomatoes for serious criticism? This is a site that measures the critical standing of a movie by tomato splats." Do you even think before write such smugness? Armond White is just a middlebrow critic\'s punching bag. Someone to they can mischaracterize as a "boor" without evidence that hasn\'t been discredited like the Annette Bening thing and Aronofsky thing. "Look at me I care about Race as I oust and smear one of the only prominent highly knowledgable black critics out of the discussion." Sad stuff guys. Keep punching up indiewire it makes you look really good!

I kinda like what Armond White brings to the critic\'s table. He always seems to cut through with a nugget of truth once in a while when other critics are riding the bandwagon. His review of Precious is pretty spot-on. I think you\'re underestimating Rotten Tomatoes, though. I don\'t use it, but I quite often here it referenced by the media and other social media outlets.

who cares, film criticism is a garbage profession anyway. and so are awards. it\'s all subjective. your opinions shouldn\'t matter, but because people are so easily manipulated they somehow do. isn\'t letting people know about the movies that are out there enough? sure, some movies are better than others, but who cares, people are gonna watch whatever they wanna watch. that\'s why we were blessed with grown ups 2.

I\'m really not intending to sound like a \'contrarian\' by any means, but I disagree slightly with the notion that handing out awards from a critics circle diminishes the professional, analytic discourse on film. In fact, I think it encourages it. Whose work is worthy of being appraised, and whose is not? We rely on film/movie/artistic-cultural critics for that type of feedback. In a dream world, the next generation of artists will have an equal understanding of the intentions, the work, and the true meaning of film criticism that most film critics have on the artists that they discuss. In such a utopia, I also believe the objective, collective opinion on artists\' work from critic circles will be of higher value, and genuine critics will be the ones who have more authority in these grandiose award ceremonies that often reward artists based on popularity, likeability, etc. over authentically good work. (P.S. And I know I can be a little long-winded at times, but I\'ve been WAITING for THR to do a roundtable on critics, simply to discuss what they do, their work, common misconceptions about the position, etc., and, I say, if they won\'t, who? ....Me. Let\'s do a podcast on it. I would ask the perfect questions. And I\'d totally do it for free.) Just a thought from an unbiased outsider :-)
