Not sure I feel about Argo's inevitable win. On one hand it's far better than some of the potential winners and a nice throwback to old-school, adult filmmaking. On the other hand it's the definition of a three-star movie: good in every aspect but it does absolutely nothing to elevate the material into something greater (and given what No managed to this year in the same genre I have a hard time pretending Argo is anything more than a well-directed, well-acted, crackerjack thriller). It's heaps better than a lot of past winners but considering American cinema has produced films like Zero Dark Thirty and The Master this year I can't help but feel that as usual the Academy is behind the curve. In fact I think that Affleck's snub is one of the primary reasons why it has pulled ahead in what was an incredibly tight race.

i didn't love 'argo' but i really liked it. that being said, the academy needs to be called out for fucking affleck and nominating a non-factor like benh zeitlin. haneke could fit here too even though 'amour' is fantastic. and by called out i mean scrutinized and made fun of.

Embarrassing apart from Riva. When did the BAFTAs become even worse than the Oscars? Anna Karenina was robbed of score and production design. Amour was robbed of director and screenplay. If this were 10 years ago, Joaquin would have (rightfully) won over DDL.

So let me get this right, ARGO wins practically every Best Picture/Best Director awards this year, yet somehow the Academy forgets to nominate Affleck for Best Director? Just another example of how out of touch the Academy has become. ARGO for best Director, DiCaprio for supporting actor, THE MASTER for cinematography. Three snubs which make me wonder who in the world hi-jacked the Academy.

I will laugh my ass off if they actually give Best Director/Pic to LINCOLN. It's just WAR HORSE with two good actors (DDL/TLJ) Laughably wtf dialogue, awful pacing, and roll of the eyes historically incorrect cliche moments. I expect more from Spielberg. SLP on the other hand would make me happy.
