In the 2nd act, towards the 2/3 mark of the movie, Hank Pym finally reveals to Hope (with Scott standing nearby) the events of 1987, what happened to Janet and it tells and shows for the first time, how the Wasp went subatomic on that nuclear warhead and deactivated the missile, saving million of innocent lives, but in doing so got stuck in the quantum realm. That exact scene is retold and reshown in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
