Got a Tip?

‘Ant-Man 3’ Actress Katy O’Brian Calls Marvel Production “Absolutely Chaotic”

Katy O’Brian likely hit everyone’s radar after head-turning supporting roles in Disney projects like “The Mandalorian” and “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.” The actress is now promoting her new A24 erotic crime thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” which co-stars Kristen Stewart, and reflected on her time shooting that MCU sequel in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. O’Brian called the Marvel Studios production “absolutely “chaotic” and said new scenes, rewritten by scribes like Jeff Loveness, were delivered at the last minute.

“Yeah, that was chaotic,” the actress said with a laugh while speaking with EW about the Marvel production. “I think we were getting new pages until the last day, and I think I was getting new fights the last day. I just show up, and they’re like, here’s a new fight.”

O’Brian, who played the character Jentorra, was quick to mention everyone she worked with on the Marvel pic was “lovely.” “I thought me being this kind of like newbie, they might, I don’t know, either ignore me, or I would just feel out of place,” she said. “But they just always made it as welcoming as possible. I was surprised by that environment.”

While the “Ant-Man” movies aren’t massive earners for Marvel Studios, the entire industry did take notice when “Ant-Man 3” (which introduced us to the villainous take of Kang The Conqueror) made less than the previous two films, only earning $476 million worldwide; a dip of $146.7 million compared to the second film. The audience’s apathy toward the third “Ant-Man” installment seemingly echoed within Marvel, as plans for “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” quickly changed afterward.

Both writer Jeff Loveness and director Destin Daniel Cretton exited the film ahead of Jonathan Majors’ conviction/firing, signaling a potentially significant change in direction. While Majors is gone from the MCU, there is an expectation the film will still continue to focus on Kang, with Michael Waldron (“Doctor Strange 2,” “Loki”) taking over screenwriting duties. There are rumblings that Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo (“Rustin”) is being eyed for a recasting for the Multiverse baddie, but so far, none of that is official.

As previously mentioned, O’Brian is part of the “Star Wars” universe, playing the Imperial character Elia Kane in “The Mandalorian.” Fans will be curious to see if she’ll return for Jon Favreau’sThe Mandalorian & Grogu” movie, which is expected to begin shooting this year in California with a potential release date of May or December 2026, two dates Disney has free for potential Lucasfilm movies.
