Nothing to me can replace that version. That said, I don't see anything inherently wrong with remakes, except when nothing new or interesting is done to it; see Andrea Arnold's WUTHERING HEIGHTS as an example of a new adaptation of a classic novel done correctly. I just hope they don't update it to present days so now Jo writes for a blog and Amy aspires to marry into a reality TV show family.
