I found Andy Sandberg to be insufferable at first due to his work on SNL. I didn’t really care as much for Hot Rod but I have it a second chance and it grew on me. All of that withstanding, Popstar is so funny and the music is fairly catchy is funny. Legalize has to be the funniest song from the movie and you really don’t even hear it until the credits roll. Also Jorma and Akiva really shined in Popstar. Akiva’s dry bitter hatred was perfect and Jorma being the loveable side kick worked. Hopefully whenever/whatever they do next the trio has equal screen time as they work the best together. The closest thing I can really compare Popstar to is Walk Hard which I equally love and could go on about. They are the perfect satirical comedies that are perfectly detailed and thought out. I’ll end my diatribe now. Ok now.

Ryan Gosling is no Ryan Reynolds. First off if you are going to make a film set in the 70’s (and who has any idea why they did. It had nothing to do with the film) set it in the 70’s. Not sometimes the 80’s, sometimes 2016, or sometimes no place that ever existed in the real world. Second, Ryan Gosling seems to live by the mantra that 80% of the job is just showing up. He’s like watching a smelly sponge dry. And it’s debatable if the sponge has more personality.

I can’t speak for this film but Nice Guys, despite Russell Crowe’s effort to drag it out of the gutter was horrible. People didn’t see it because it sucked not because it was R rated.
