There is no INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY in the court of public opinion. Audiences and studios will direct their praise and scorn (and spend their money) as they feel serves and reflects their own interests and biases. There has always been resulting collateral damage from that fact, it just wasn’t generally the rich, famous, or privileged who faced the consequences. In the modern economy, men have been exercising that exact sort of entitled bias for decades by preferentially hiring and promoting other men over equally qualified women and then using that accumulated gender power to construct male dominant, often female hostile, work environments to cater to their own preferences and pleasures.
