I suppose the relationships in the original could be construed as a very fucked up love triangle, but it was completely buried in subtext: the rapist was the wife's ex-boyfriend, she gives the infamous ambiguous smile during the rape, etc. Not much love involved, but maybe some lust. It's never remarked upon directly because Peckinpah actually respected the audience's intelligence.

Tristan, I recommend that you watch the original and you'll understand. There's no love triangle drama. There's a rape! That's proof that this "retelling" will not be good. Hell, even I winced when I found out that they were remaking this.

There will be no sociological bite to this film. It'll be a soap opera on film.

I think you all will eat crow on the remake. You seem very smug and know-it-all, but all the talent involved in this one seems tip-top to me... including Lurie who has made at least one film, "The Contender" that is better than any peckinpah film except for "The Wild Bunch".

Who knows what Skarsgard means be a love triangle? I am sure not in the "Sweet Home Alabama" way.
