Got a Tip?

Albert Brooks To Play Paul Rudd’s Dad In Judd Apatow’s ‘Knocked Up’ Spinoff

Well, casting is beginning to shape up for Judd Apatow’s next directorial gig and it’s taking some directions we never would have guessed. Earlier today, it was reported that Megan Fox was in talks for a role in the film, and now a comedy veteran is negotiating for a spot in the movie.

Deadline reports that Albert Brooks is getting lined up to play Paul Rudd‘s Dad in the film that will him reunite with Leslie Mann, reprising their characters Pete and Debbie from “Knocked Up” in a story that will chronicle their tale five years down the road from the events in that film.

It’s certainly an interesting pairing and with the two comedy giants bouncing ideas off each other — Apatow’s sets highly encourages improvisation — it should be an fascinating duo to see work together, particularly as Brooks is clear influence on Apatow. For Brooks, who just wrapped playing a gangster in Nicolas Winding Refn‘s forthcoming “Drive,” it’s another intriguing choice and one that puts him firmly in the hands of an established auteur. Thumbs up from us on this choice for sure.

Apatow’s untitled new film will hit theaters on June 1, 2012.
