This move isn\’t "to expand numbers" as the academy never said that. That was just bad writing or horrible assumptions made in error by the writer of this. The press release clearly says it\’s not, but instead because their initial plan had failed and not accomplished what they set out for.

The Oscar Landscape of limiting in large numbers films and award presenters of color will again show an even more severe ratings drop next year. Until folks will forget that it\’s even being telecast. Empire with all it\’s faults shows you program some for people of color and we will show up in support in large numbers

I don\’t see how going back to five nominees will help. Expanding the nominees did not water down the prestige,it made the best picture category more interesting. If it was not expanded Zero Dark Thirty, Her, Up, District 9, Winters Bone and others would not have been nominated.
