So far, there are two versions of the movie. One is 2 hours long and the other is about 15 minutes shorter, what you need to know about those is that the first one is the original version, as Ferrara envisioned it, and the second one mainly cuts the original's first 30 minutes to about 17 when most of the sex and rape scenes happen. That's about it.

Perhaps the most important difference involves the rape sequence: the original one is bare-ass-jerk-off-on-her-face graphic and in the second one it is omitted altogether to a shot of a closed door where you can only hear what's happening. And I have to say the difference between these two versions is quite striking. I prefer the original where I can literally imagine Ferrara just savoring every little scene until the credits roll.

His real beef is with Wild Bunch for guaranteeing an R-rated cut, but Ferrara has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, and he's just being angry for the sake for being angry. I'm actually surprised you can see anything but stomach on a full-frontal Depardieu.

As long as my favorite actress Jacqueline Bisset\’s scenes remain intact (and they should since she does not appear in any of the "controversial" scenes, I don\’t care if "Welcome to New York" is released in the U.S. unrated or edited to qualify for the dreaded \’R\’ rating. I simply want to see the movie and actually I\’d be more than pleased NOT to be subjected to scenes of a nude Depardieu considering his current girth!

Is there any debate here? An Abel Ferrara film is not an Abel Ferrara film less his UNEDITED vision reaches the screen. That said, compromise takes many forms and even just releasing both versions wouldn't kill anyone…Just sayin
