Composer/Devo co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh has worked on a number different films and TV shows over the years, collaborating with directors such as Wes Anderson and Phil Lord and Chris Miller along the way. Now you can add Cameron Crowe to the long list of filmmakers who has worked with the man as Mothersbaugh revealed last week at the BMI Film & Television Awards that he’s been hired to write the music for Crowe’s upcoming untitled project.
Mothersbaugh will be the first “established” film composer that Cameron Crowe’s worked with in his 25 years as a filmmaker. His previous film, “We Bought A Zoo,” featured music written by Jónsi, the Sigur Rós frontman (who early on, was said to be scoring this movie, but it seems that didn’t work out). Before that, ex-wife Nancy Wilson was usually tasked with those duties. Of course, leave it to Cameron Crowe to find the one professional composer who also happens to be the frontman of a legendary new wave band.
Mark Mothersbaugh said that he’s already finished with one-third of the music in the film. This would seem to suggest that the movie is closed to being completely finished, yet for some reason, Crowe has still not come up with an official title. At any rate, the romantic/comedy/drama stars Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray and more.
