Got a Tip?

‘John Wick’ Prequel Anime In The Works Described As “Crazy & Nutty”

When we first meet Keanu Reeves’ character in “John Wick,” he’s living the life of a retired man. We don’t know much about how he retired from a life of killing, but we’re told it’s because he was able to complete an “impossible task.” Well, if you were ever wondering exactly what that task was, then you’re in luck because we’re getting a prequel anime feature that will answer those questions.

In a retrospective piece from THR about the 10th anniversary of the first “John Wick” film, director Chad Stahelski revealed that there is a “crazy and nutty” anime spinoff film in development that will serve as a prequel film that will show exactly what Reeves’ Wick had to do to earn his retirement from a life of killing.

Not much else was said about the anime, but if it moves ahead, it could be a big deal with fans of the original ‘Wick’ films. Since the first film, there has always been a desire to see the early days of the character. And since Reeves isn’t getting any younger, it’s clever to use animation to bring that story to life.

The “John Wick” anime is only one of the various spinoffs of the original film series. We’ve already seen one— “The Continental.” However, there are quite a few more in various stages of development. Next up is “The Ballerina,” which is a feature film spinoff arriving in 2025. Then we have a Caine movie (based on a character from “John Wick: Chapter 4”) which is also in development. And on the TV side, we have “Under the High Table.” And we can probably expect more if these are hits.

There’s no anticipated release date set for the “John Wick” anime.
