‘One Piece’ Final Trailer: The Massively Popular Manga Comes To Live-Action On Netflix This Week


Is the journey more important than the destination? Over two decades of manga, fans have been enthralled by the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy in ā€œOne Pieceā€ — this young pirate sets out on a larger-than-life quest and finds a crew of misfits along the way. The manga became the source material for an anime series that spans over 1000 episodes and counting. All of that has led to Netflix’s live-action adaptation, which promises to bring some of anime’s most popular characters and settings to life.

Portraying the well-known crew is no easy task yet the series assembled a talented cast.Ā IƱaki GodoyĀ stars as Luffy, having previously led ā€œThe Imperfects.ā€ The Netflix series’ sci-fi, action, and adventure genres make for a perfect segway into this distinctive franchise. Roronoa Zoro, the team’s swordsman, is played byĀ Mackenyu. The actor comes from a legendary acting family, with the lateĀ Sonny ChibaĀ his father. Before ā€œOne Piece,ā€ Mackenyu starred in ā€œFullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter – The Avenger Scarā€ and ā€œFullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter – The Last Transmutation.ā€

This version of ā€œOne Pieceā€ comes from creatorsĀ Steven MaedaĀ andĀ Matt Owens. The pair gave fans a glimpse into what to expect with a behind-the-scenes tour in mid-2022. Owens has a background in genre projects, including the Netflix and Marvel collaboration ā€œLuke Cage.ā€
