I saw it in IMAX 70mm, and the IMAX space sequences are fantastic, but the changing aspect ratios during the film are unbelievably distracting.
Saw it at the Universal Citywalk Stadium 19. Aside from the fact that that place is a goat rodeo (now that it\'s more about the theme park than Citywalk), so it\'s impossible now to just hit Citywalk for a quick bite, a movie, etc. without feeling screwed by parking ($16, $11 of which is rebated back in cash if attending a movie at the Staduim 19), being placed into parking far from the theater and then having to negotiate the hellish parking garage to the Citywalk main area to find the theater. Anyway, once that hassle is over, the IMAX at Universal is a true IMAX screen with 70mm film showing of Interstellar... the theater itself has reserved seating (which few pay attention to to sit far back and center, until a theater usher comes in to nicely ask one to move to their reserved seat), and the only time the showing was marred for me was people walking in late (up to 20 minutes late... WTF, if you can\'t make a show on time, get tix for a later show... I mean why bother if you\'re going to miss most of the setup). The image quality was terrific (sure there were minor blemishes here and there, but if you want project film, that\'s what you get... you want a pristine image, seek digital), and the sound was excellent... the deep rumble of take off for space flight was amazing... every bone in my body felt it. The silence of the space travel sequences (barring Hans Zimmer\'s superb score) was extraordinary... Nolan has one shot of the Endurace traveling against the backdrop of Saturn was totally worthy of 2001. I don\'t know if that shot would have been half as impressive on a standard screen, but I\'m willing to find out. I do think that much of the visual information will get lost on home video, which won\'t seem nearly as impressive. This is a true event movie, a rare one... and it pays off in nearly every way (though it\'s not without its problems, the screenplay is pretty damn good and the science nearly impeccable (but then, that\'s what you get when a real astrophysicist/cosmologist is an executive producer... Kip Thorne should be proud). If you have a chance to see it in a true IMAX theater in 70mm, do not hesitate. Realize that it is film, and will have projection issues moreso than a digital presentation would... that\'s just part of what celluloid is all about, so deal with it. It is a dense film, information wise, and Nolan nearly falls into the same twisty, sentimental third act that M. Night Shyamalan is know for (and dreaded for), but he pretty much pulls it off. Ambitious yes! Pretentious, not nearly as much as you\'d think. Entertaining, most definitely. Mind blowing... well, of you\'re not familiar with Einstein\'s general and special relativity theories, then you\'ll probably think it\'s more far out than someone steeped in physics.

I watched Interstellar in digital IMAX. It was indeed an extraordinary experience, especially being only my second time in an IMAX theater(the 1st was digital 3d IMAX).However, I couldn\'t help but notice the lack of crisp resolution. I\'m no expert, but I understand that you\'ll see some grain in low-light shots. But almost the whole film seemed like I was watching a 4k timelapse on Youtube, but my internet was too slow, so youtube took it down to 480p or something like that.
Luckily, the film was amazing enough for me to forget that most of the time. I don\'t know if that is typical for digital IMAX or if it was the screen I saw it at(Jordan Megaplex Sandy,UT.).

Saw it in IMAX 70mm in NYC. Scale of scree does impact your experience. With good seats, the native IMAX frames are something special to behold (mostly establishing/landscape shots) and have are noticeably finer and resolve more detail as well as seem to have a better dynamic range). I thought it was apparent when 35mm was being cut to (even though the aspect change was not readily as obvious) purely because of the increased grain, fuzziness, and just an overall "softer" feel to the blown up prints.

I had the opportunity to see the film 5 times, on 3 different screens. Twice in Imax 70mm Film in Calgary, Alberta, once in Imax Digital, and twice in smaller digital formats (Vancouver\'s Cineplex and a beautifully-maintaned small-town theatre in Alberta.)

What I was not expecting was the difference in gravitas (pun not intended) yielded by the very visceral and emotional impact of Zimmer\'s soundtrack combined with the towering screen and the timeless and even "epic" feel of film. Compared to the smaller screens, the movie simply does not impart the same emotional response. In fact, the smaller screenings had a bit more of a digital documentary feel to them. Hardly the right medium for a film who\'s perception as an epic requires it to be seen, heard, and felt in an epic way (as epic as we can get in the movie industry, of course.)
