"Liked it more than those words imply."

And in the comment section:

Just got back from a screening, and I have to say, I enjoyed Big Fish much more. It at least had some semblance of conflict among characters.

Film Experience got it spot-on, except I'd replace "Big Fish" with "Forrest Gump." Note to Eric Roth: setting scenes against a historical backdrop ≠ story.

I think the reason people accuse you of "hating on" this movie is because you seem to take this strange delight from reviews that are anything short of stellar. It borders on smug at this point.

It's also weird.

The point I always made was: why not give equal time to those reviews that aren't just seven-word snark? By reading your blog no one would even know that the film is getting mostly RAVE reviews.

P.S. I actually find it funny that I touched off such a sore spot with you, regarding this film, that you've mentioned it so many times now.

For context’s sake, I don’t want to walk out of “Button” feeling like it was even a possiblity (though it is) that the film was supposed to tread “Big Fish” territory. I hold loftier goals for that film than to have it aim that low, IMO.

Exactly, it's within the realm of possibility, but just because one says that doesn't mean we/one aren't still excited to see it.

To paraphrase a friend today: I feel like the English language gets so perverted and reductive sometimes.

Questioning does not=hating on.

Well the original teaser definately gave off the Big Fish vibe with the Burton/Elfman-esque music blaring, so the comparison is not unbelieveable. So is it Big Fish, Forrest Gump, or something new entirely? Still can’t wait.
