This is really pretty disturbing, since the list sort of leads one on with all those lovely clips ... I've grown used to these kinds of lists often being silly and ill-considered -- but this is really a bit much!

Leaving out Oklahoma and Carousel -- the latter often considered the greatest musical of all time! -- is totally unacceptable period ... I realize that some people don't care for the film version of Carousel -- although personally I would put it at #1 my self !!! ... But no one doubts the genius of the Oklahoma film ... (And I highly recommend that people check out the possibly even better Todd AO version)

And yeah, "Hair" should have been there, at least up in the eighties ... And maybe "Xanadu" at #98 or something would have been nice just for fun!

The biggest tragedy of this list is that "The Producers" and "Hairspray" are not on it. I'm all about the classic movie musicals (good job putting On The Town on there!) but missing these two well done modern musicals from the top 50 is, like I said, a tragedy.

I applaud you for attempting this list, but of course disagree with much of it. The high rankings of so many dull, bloated stage to film adaptations over original musicals simply puzzles me. And, as someone else commented, leaving The Pirate and It's Always Fair Weather off the list just doesn't make sense. They're not obscure movies or underground cinema that I wouldn't expect people to know about; they're well known, much talked about movies. I'd also take Easter Parade, Funny Face, and even Cover Girl over many of stage adaptations on this list. If you wanted a Doris Day musical, Love Me or Leave Me would be a better choice than Calamity Jane. And yes, the musical numbers at the end of The Bandwagon don't add up to anything but a revue, but the Comden-Green script is overall a very clever take on the theater business. So...thanks for trying, though...

You put The Band Wagon at 50? The Band Wagon is just as great, if not more so than, Singin' in the Rain.
And you left off The Young Girls of Rochefort, yet somehow included Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang, and even La La Land?
It boggles the mind. It's an astonishingly bad list.

Calamity Jane over Meet Me in St. Louis and The Band Wagon, are you high? And it doesn't even have Young Girls of Rochefort or It's Always Fair Weather or A Woman is a Woman? Gigi is on here but not the far better The Pirate? Outside a few obvious choices it's a pretty poor list.
