I saw the fantastic movie when just a young and very impressionable girl. We saw it the DriveIn and yes I agree there is no better movie………
It was just amazing……. And those blue eyes of Peters….wow!!!

Nice post. That Lawrence was made at all given everything that went wrong during its production is astonishing. A real miracle of a movie.

One minor criticism: Peter O'Toole was not a minor character in The Day They Robbed the Bank of England. He was actually second-billed under Aldo Ray, playing the movie's main antagonist. It's a very interesting performance to contrast with Lawrence; O'Toole is a very proper English army officer in that movie, where Lawrence is anything but.

What do you mean here? Â£100,000 at time LoA was filmed was the equivalent of about $7 million today. Surely the physical process did not cost Â£100,000. Nor could Finney have demanded such an amount.

I think part of the cult and timeless status of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA is especially owed to the use of little or lesser known actors of the time. Hard to believe German actor Horst Buchholz had seriously been considered to play Omar Sharif's part. Anthony Quinn (as my Arab friends told me) played an incredibly believable Arab, Sir Alec Guiness played Prince Faisal
with the nobility and dignity you'd expect from a royal but it's of course Egyptian actor Omar Sharif who provides the necessary credibility that this is a film about the Arab revolt and not just Caucasian actors pretending to play other etnhic groups (i.e. American Natives).

Rather funny is the criticism that O'Toole didn't look like the real-life T.E. Lawrence. I couldn't think of any actor from that era that could possibly pass as a look-alike of the real Lawrence.

"A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia" is also notable as the film in which Spielberg saw the then-unknown Ralph Fiennes, resulting in his casting in "Schindler's List" and his entire career that followed.
