No one played Sarah Jane's father in Imitation of Life. Annie was a widow. Paul Kohner was Susan Kohner's father in real life, a major Hollywood agent whose clients included Lana Turner.

There's a mistake above. John Kohner did not play Sarah's father in the film, he was the real father of the actress Susan Kohner.

No insult intended, but I would like to know about the source material for the author\’s assertion that the songs above were directly influenced by "Imitation of Life." I ask for two reasons: I\’ve found so much misinformation on the web that I rarely accept what I read without further investigation. An another reason is that many forms of artistic expression contain the ideas of other artists, but by an unconsciousness process. A perfect example is the way certain passages in Herman Melville\’s "Moby-Dick" resemble some of the verse in Shakespeare\’s plays. But I believe that Melville did not intentionally set out to imitate Shakespeare. It has been documented by many Melville scholars that he was frantically re-reading Shakespeare while he was writing "Moby-Dick." Melville was an excellent reader. The plays he absorbed were thoroughly digested and became an intrinsic part of His artistic expression. The great scholar Carl Jung called "Moby-Dick" the most unconscious book he ever read. In other words, Moby-Dick intuitively came to its author, the way Beethoven\’s songs just popped into his mind when he went out for long walks. . The Greeks called the source of artistic creation "The Muse." In our modern world we call it the unconscious–both are different names for the same mysterious phenomenon.

Saw Imitation of Life in Texas with my parents, kid brother and my dad's parents. I was a young teen. We left the movie house and for the only time in my life I saw my grandfather, Papa Charlie, cry.
